We are pleased to announce that the hall now has a new roof. The old one leaked to such an extent that replacement was the only option. The costs involved were substantial. The contractor’s original quotation was exceeded when additional work was required i.e. replacement of roof timbers and upgrading of insulation to meet current regulations. We approached Great Burstead and South Green Village Council for funding towards these costs. The Village Council very generously provided two grants: £1,830 towards the initial quotation and a further £5,000 for the additional work. Also Basildon Council granted £2,000 and £6,000 was received from Essex County Council Community Initiatives Fund. In addition to this we received donations from two of our hall hirers: £500 from Short Mat Bowls Club and £307 from Line Dancing Club. The remaining sum for this work was provided from hall funds.
The Trustees of the hall would very much like thank all those who contributed towards these costs. Without such generosity the Trustees would have great difficulty maintaining the hall.
